This is a contents page from Word. The red is bold and stands out to the reader. It is banded in certain blocks so it is recognisable to the reader. You can see a preformance picture common in magazines and it uses recognisable people so it interests the reader. The bottom block allows the reader to see what the writers stuff is about, it shows their pedigree as they are familiar with the magazine. It is unusual for magazines to do this. You can see in the bottom corner that it advertises the CD of the month. It has a house style which is simple colours such as the red and has a typical layout. The numbers are not in chronological order, as it is put into blocks.

This is the over side of mojo that I analysed, once again it is a typical mojo layout. There is the same subheadings on every contents page for mojo, this is easy for the reader to recognise. They use a basic colour scheme and it is banded into certain blocks so it is easier for the reader. The numbered pages are not in chronological order, you can see that they use the same layout of images in mojo magazines, it always has a concert image, old artists, two albumns and a painting. The bottom block allows the readers to see what the writers stuff is about, it shows their pedigree as they are familiar with the magazine. It is unusual for magazines to do this.

The next contents page I have analysed is from Word, which is also another magazine that is very recognisable with the puplic. They use a particular layout in the contents page seperating topics into sections. They also make subheadings stand out so it is easier for the audience to read and easier for them to find what they are looking for. You can also see that there is lots of pictures used for what stories the magazine contains, this is common in magazines. The original colour is red and orange, the red is bold stands out and attracts hte reader. There is a picture of an editor and a letter from the editor which is common on contents pages in magazines. There are numbered pages showing what page a certain topic is on, however the numbers on the contents page is not in chronological order, this is common convention in magazines. It keeps things that are to do with each other together. At the side of the page you can see the credits for the magazine, this is not common for magazines.

Another example of a front cover i have analysed is also another Blender magazine.

In Blender, the main image on the cover is used to appeal to the female audience for example, Naomi Wolf (1990) where she used erotic images of women to sell female products. The sexual pose the models are doing reveals a lot of flesh because they are wearing revealing clothes and the models are very recogniseable.
Also, three different font styles are used so the magazine doesn't look the same and so it is not plain and boring. This is a common convention used throughtout magazines. In most magazines including this one, three different font colours are used for the same reason.
The date and price on the magazine is kept to one side of the cover so it does not detract attention from the rest of the cover. Both male and female are the audience for this magazine as the models stand out to a male audience as they are basically showing a lot of flesh where as a female audience is also intended to buy this magazine as using erotic images stands out to a female audience and is more likely to sell the product.

In Blender magazine, they use an attractive model for women to buy the magazine such as Naomi Wolf (1990) who used erotic images of women to sell products to them.

the magazine only uses one image of one model as it would look unattractive and over crowded with other images on the cover. With just text on the cover makes it look spaced out and professional. Also, three different colour fonts are used, this is a common convention used in magazines. Four different font styles are used on this cover, this is also a convention.

The model they have used is recognisable and poses in a sexy way with her mouth open, hands on her head and showing quite a bit of flesh.

The small image in the corner of the magazine is used to show the reader what is inside and what they can expect to see. There is a bar at the top of the magazine which is another common convention of magazines and the bold title is used to stand out to the audience.

The audience for this magazine is both men and women as the model used on the front cover is recognisable to them and an erotic image is shown to make both the male and female audience buy this product, it is more likely for them to buy this when using erotic images.

Another magazine a I analysed was another one of vibes.

Just like the other vibe magazine, there is only one picture of one model as it would look unattractive and overcrowded with the other pictures on the cover, and with the text it looks spaced out and professional. The model they have used is attractive, this is used to appear to the female audience to buy the magazine, she is sexy such as Naomi Wolf where erotic images are used of women to sell magazines. The price, date and bar code are at one side so it doesn't detract attention from the cover. The model used on this cover is doing a sexual pose, shes wearing tight clothing showing her curves and showing quite a bit of flesh. The writing curves around her breasts and her bum emphasising her figure, and the light gradient is shining on her front and back focusing on her figure. Five different fonts are used wich is a convention of magazines. Also, six different colours are used, they are all bright and stand out. There is a website provided to give more infromation about the magazine. The audience for this magazine would be also both men and women as the attractive model would stand out to both of them due to her posing sexy and by it using an erotic image which is more likely for people to buy the product.

Magazine Analysis

I analysed magzines to show certain conventions i will include in my own.

The first magazine i have chosen to analyse is vixen (vibe).
Vixen appears to be sexy and foxy. As you can see, the magazine is colour coded, there is a purple background and she has purple in her hair. They have used an attractive female to appear to a female audience to buy the magazine, such as Naomi Wolf (1990) using erotic images of women to sell products to women. There is only one picture of a model used because if there was more than one it would look unattractive and cramped, having just the text makes it look professional. The pose used is sexual, as her mouth is half open, has her hand on her hip, she is sticking her hip out and she is dressed quite revealing. Three different fonts are used which is a common convention on magazines, and there are three different colour texts used and they are bright and stand out. The price, date and bar code are out of the ways and are put to one side, so it doesnt detract attention from the rest of the magazine cover. There is also a website provided to give extra information about the magazine. There seems to be a hook to buy the magazine "win a free trip to paradise" this will make the audience want to buy it, this is a common convention with magazines. The colours dont clash together and they are lush stereotypical colours. The title used are bold and stand out. The audience for this magazine would mainly be women due to the stereotypical colours used which mainly stand out to women and buy using an erotic image makes it more likely for a female audience to buy the magazine.
